This is an amazing book. I agree with all of the positive things every other reviewer has said. I'm not going to waste time repeating everyone. For the folks that have said the book is TOO detailed on the medical pictures and info, I disagree. If you want something that is more of a guide through your pregnancy, get a copy of What to Expect When Your Expecting, or The Expectant Father (I've been finding both informative, and am glad I purchased all 3). As helpful as books like those are, they don't provide the same level of illustrated detail on how it all works. I really appreciate the many 3-D ultrasound pictures showing the progression of growth in the fetus, and the chart (pages 84-85), "The Fetus's Changing Body", which shows the week by week progression of the fetus's different body systems (skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, skin hair nails and teeth, lymphatic and immune, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems). It is amazing how fast the baby develops.As great as this book is, there is a major printing error. PAGES 65-80 ARE IN SPANISH! I have put in a request for an exchange. I hope it is an isolated error, but I did see one other review describing the same problem (the only other 3 star review). I attached a picture showing page 80 in Spanish and then page 81 is back in English.
the replacement copy was sent via free two day shipping after I emailed customer support. The replacement didn't have any pages in Spanish, so it's all good!

This book is incredibly detailed with gorgeous photos and illustrations that really help you understand what is going on inside. For anyone who is pregnant for the first time or wanting to help an older child understand what is happening inside mommy, this is the book for you. It's clearly-written, richly illustrated, and not condescending at all (unlike many pregnancy books). When each week contains a milestone, this book made it really fun to follow along with my own pregnancy and imagine what was going on with my baby.
A word of advice, however; this book contains full, anatomically-correct images and illustrations that may be too much for small children. I recommend this for children 8 and older.
The DVD that is advertised with the book is a throw-away. There's nothing on it that isn't in the book as well.
I just got this book a couple of days ago and I already love it. It's definitely good for anyone who is science-minded. It shows the development of several different organs such as the heart, lungs and brain. It has pictures of what happens to the woman's body as well as the fetus development. This book doesn't have much information about diet, exercise etc., so I would recommend pairing it with another book such as Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy(also one of my favorites). The two books together is all you will need to completely understand your pregnancy and what is going each week with your baby and your body.
I like this book. Lots of pictures (like the cover). If you are the nerdy type, this is fun to look at throughout pregnancy (skip the disorders chapter). I have a few issues. They may sound petty. Here they are I HATE the stupid gendered pictures. There is a pictures of men and women... I may be exaggerating, but the men and boys are standing square with hands on their hips looking very sporty and then women and girls are all hugging each other. The other thing is that there is this naked lady show side view kneeling ... and she is present just for months 1-3 or so and then she disappears. It would have been nice if she was showed every month on through.
I love this book. I purchased this book when I was about 2 months pregnant. I am now over 6 months pregnant and still find myself flipping through the pages every few days. I am always learning something new and this book is filled with tons of great information. The pictures are so detailed and the illustrations of a woman’s body as it progresses through pregnancy are also very detailed. The book is very well laid out and it doesn’t take a medical student to understand the information. This is definitely my favorite pregnancy book and I will definitely be gifting this to loved ones when they get pregnant.
I got this book to look through with my kids (aged 10 and 15) when I was expecting my 3rd child. It was a great visual to help them (and my husband) understand what was going on in my body as my baby grew. This book is pretty thorough and a bit graphic. I'd recommend that parents look through the book first before allowing your child to look at it. That way, if you find anything you don't want your children to see, you can cover it up. I ended up putting a few post-it notes over just a handful of the images in the book (I only have boys and one of them is sensitive to "inappropriate" things.) Otherwise, I found this book super helpful and scientific!
I got this book for my kids to look at when i was pregnant with their sister as a gamble knowing it's not a kid's book and it was worth it . Wonderful, well detailed book from start to finish. Tasteful illustrations when it comes to reproduction, some amazing in utero images of fetus to baby. I dont shy away from the fact and truth so I felt the non biased format of this book made it perfect to teach my kids when they started asking the "where babies come from" questions. This will be an excellent resource for years to come, I'm sure. And it's nice and sturdy enough it last that long and beyond.
Plus a computer rom disk. It's nothing fancy but it was a fun surprise.
Fantastic book for the more scientific minded Mama's! This book has everything you need to know about your pregnancy and the changes in your body. I've found that there's not a whole lot of information on the internet about very early pregnancy, however when you get your BFP this is the first thing you want to know! This book has it all. Very detailed by the day, week, and month. Also a lot of information about safety, the birthing process, and disorders (although you might want to skip this section if you're prone to worrying). Lots of pictures, diagrams, and facts. You will not regret buying this book. I plan to give it to any friends who get pregnant after me!
